Opportunities for learning inside and outside the centre
Gymnastic Classes: Children at the Centre have the opportunity to gain early Gym skills. We are delighted to be able to offer Gym Classes for our 3-4 year olds at Capital gym sports one day a week in the morning. We invite all the children in this age group who attend on our gym day (changes term to term) to join these classes. The cost of the class will be charged on your account on a Term basis. The programme, (taught by fully qualified Gym teachers at Capital Gym in Newtown) will help them gain many of these invaluable life skills.
Kaicycle:
Every thursday we take a group of tamariki over to kaicycle where we spend approximately 30 minutes engaging in some gardening/sustainability focussed tasks. We are so fortunate to be able to offer this hands on learning and opportunity to connect with our kai, get into the mara and learn from experts on sustainability and regenerative planting and food practices.
Excursions: As part of our programme we take our older children, toddlers and occasionally infants on regular excursions into our community. We also take our younger children out where practical too. These trips include regular nature walks; visits to our local maunga, awa and marae; visits to Te Papa; visits to the local gym and library and so much more!
Tuakana Programme for our 4-5 year olds: This programme runs in conjunction with CKC’s general programme planning. There is a focus on the development of the school curriculum’s essential skills; and promoting individual curriculum goals, our centre philosophy and achieving the goals set in partnership between parents and teachers.
The programme is based as much as possible on real-life experiences with excursions playing an integral part of the programme. Teachers introduce literacy, numeracy, science and technology informally but intentionally through individual and group work. We aim to support each child to see themselves as a confident and competent learner.
